TAP - Modem

The most common problem when attempting alpha paging via modem is that the pin number has been entered in the software / alphamate as a 10 digit phone number. This will not work - it must be 7 digits.

The second most common problem is caused by the 56K modems that are widely available in the newer computer platforms. These modems often have a hard time "slowing down" from 56K down to 1200 baud. In these instances, you should see if the software supports "generic" drivers to load instead of the standard 56K drivers it usually uses. NOTE: This should be done by a certified professional.

If necessary, you may want to contact your computer platform support team and advise them you need to slow the modem down to 1200 Baud. You may also check with the modem manufacturer for a 'modem initialization string' that slows the modem down to 1200 baud. Note: Strangely enough, simply asking the modem to slow down to 300 Baud has corrected some connection problems in the past. You might try the 300 baud option.

If you still are having problems, feel free to contact us. Please note that we are able to provide basic troubleshooting techniques, yet do not have the technical resources available to handle the multitude of potential hardware / software compatibility scenarios.
